My two youngest sons absolutely love this castle. They are 5 and 7 years old and both of them say this is the best Lego toy they have ever owned. My 15 year old who lent a hand during the build also thinks it is a pretty cool castle too.
Ok, now time for the disclaimer. This toy has 933 pieces, many of them small. It is rated for 7-14 year old kids. In my opinion if you are getting it for a 7 or 8 year old and they are not advanced (I know, my kids and your kids are very advanced, but I am speaking to those other parents now) you may want to plan on spending some time on the floor putting this castle together with the kids.
This castle was built over a 5 hour period. The majority of it was completed by my 5 and 7 year olds. Max, the 5 year old did most of the searching for pieces and Jake, the 7 year old did most of the assembly. Mom stepped in for a few of the tough parts, David, my 15 year old lent a hand, and good ole Dad (me) lent the least amount of help, but I did touch a few of the pieces and most of my assistance was guiding them in the assembly to help them figure it out.
I asked my sons what they liked the most about this castle and they said,
-the drawbridge that moves.
-the gate that cranks up and down.
-the catapults. Of course, it shoots stuff.
-the Knights.
This is a very good quality toy, but then again, aren't all Lego sets? The detail is excellent but this castle may be a little on the fragile side for any heavy handed play. We had one incident where one of the Knights jumped off the coffee table and slammed down on one of the castle ramparts and we had to rebuild part of that section. The kids are upstairs playing with it now, and as long as they are not slamming it the castle is holding up just fine.
I am pretty sure they will get endless hours playing with this castle.

The LEGO "Kindoms King's Castle" is a very cool set that has provided us hours of fun, both in building the castle and in defending it from the evil Dragon Knight and minions! The age range is listed as "7 - 14", but kids in the lower ranges of that will definitely need adult help as this is a bit of complex build. This is a large set (933 pieces) and it took us just over 3 1/2 hours to complete it.
That being said, once it is built even the youngest will get a kick out playing with the cool working catapults, working drawbridge, and LEGO characters (including The King, his 4 soldiers, a horse\unicorn, The Dragon Knight, and his 2 soldiers). I hate to admit it, but both my wife and I really enjoyed lobbing the round catapult blocks at the castle and trying to knock over the little soldiers!
It should be noted that this set also does take up a good bit of space and needs some additional room for the catapults to work. There are also quite a few small loose pieces as well (treasure chest, gems, etc). We don't ever have very small children over, but if you do it would be easy to guess that this set would likely prove a STRONG temptation for them (PLEASE heed the "Small Parts Warning"!).
This is a high quality set that is worth every bit of the asking price! My son is already planning a stop motion video using this set, which should be very fun indeed!
