This was purchased as a Christmas gift for my son. Because Amazon has never let me down, when it arrived on time I didn't even open the package. I knew it was the correct item and in great condition. When it was time to wrap it, I found that Amazon did not fail me! Now on to the toy. My 8 year old son loved this (Legos are always a hit with him). He went right to building and soon had finished the model. The skill level was right on. I believe children under 7 and those new to Lego building would find this too challenging.

Who is in charge of determining the age range for Legos? The age for this set says 7-14. I purchased this for my 5 year old who is just starting to get into Legos, figuring his father would have to help him. 4 hours later, my husband was still putting this together, by himself, of course. The instruction booklet is huge, full color with all sorts of diagrams. I think you need an engineering degree to be able to do this quickly, no way could a 7 year old get this done by themselves...I would think the 14 year old would need help too.
Once finally assembled, it is a very cool toy. My son loves race cars so he plays with them like they are toy cars, not necessarily Legos...he has crashed them a few times and we have had to reassemble quite a bit.
All in all, if you have a kid who loves Legos and you have an adult who is willing to "help", then this is a nice set.
