I agree with others that when I saw the price I really wondered if I had lost my mind ordering the set but my 6 year-old grandson wanted a Knight themed Lego cake (that's a cake cut in smaller rectangles with marshmallows for the raised circles and then frosted in "Lego" colors)and these seemed perfect for the design. We arranged the figures on top of the "Lego bricks". It was a super hit with kids and parents alike. The birthday boy received many wonderful presents including other lego sets, but these figures were the ones that he wanted to play with that day...the next day...the next day and so on. They are really more impressive than they look on screen. There are three different styles of helmets which all come off and your child can change which figure carries which pennant, cross-bow, sword, shield and mace which of course he did immediately. I have ordered the red set also so he can stage tournaments. I agree with the reviewer who suggested that you put your money in these figures and let the child build a castle out of whatever. In our case it will be boxes and we have already discussed why they needed a drawbridge and "crenallated" walls at the top so from that point of view it is educational. I also purchased a copy of this wonderful book Knights And Castles (Magic Tree House Research Guide, paper) filled with super illustrations and great explanations of Knight life without the gory details.
